VITAMIN C BP 500MG CHEWABLE TABLETS COMPOSITION: Each chewable tablet contains: Ascorbic acid BP 200mg. Sodium ascorbate BP 338mg equivalent to acid ascorbic BP 300mg. Excipients q.s. lNDICATIONS: Treatment of Common cold, Nutritional deficiency characterized as scurvy, in the treatment of anaemia, cartilage and bone lesions, slow healing of wounds. Helps maintain the body immunity, the treatment of cancer, burns, blood clots, ulcers and stomach ulcers gum disease. The tablet should be chewed before swallowed. DOSAGE: Adults: one tablet to take two to three times a day. Children: Half a pill two times daily or as directed by the physician. SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Large doses may cause excessive urination, diarrhoea, other gastro-intestinal disturbances, and the formation of renal calcium oxalate calculi. Acidification of the urine by ascorbic acid may cause precipitation of cystine or oxalate stones in the urinary tract and will alter the excretion of certain drugs administered concurrently. Very large doses of Vitamin C, therefore, should be avoided in patients with tendency to gout. Tolerance may in induced in patients taking high doses. Ascorbic acid in doses greater than 1 g daily should not be taken during pregnancy since the effects of large doses on the foetus is unknown and may cause rebound scurvy in infants.
