Lincomycin Hydrochloride Capsules 500mg THERAPEUTIC CLASS: Antibacterial, Lincosamides. COMPOSITION: Each capsule contains: Lincomycin Hydrochloride B.P. equivalent to Lincomycin 500mg. Excipients QS. PHARMACOLOGY: Lincomycin is a lincosamide used in the treatment of severe anaerobic infection caused by bacteroides and other anaerobes that often participate in mixed infections. Depending on the sensitivity of the microorganism, and the concentration of the antibiotic, Lincomycin may either be bacteriostatic or bactericidal. The Invitro spectrum Includes the following microorganism. Sensitive microorganisms (MIC ≤-2 ug/m). Anaerobic non sporulating gram-positive bacteria e.g. Actinomyces Spp, propionic bacterium Sppt and Eubacterium Spp. Anaerobic and micro-aero foil gram-positive cocci e.g. Peptocoicus Spp, Pepto streptococcus and micro-aerophilic streptococci. INDICATIONS: Severe infections due to susceptible microorganism bone and connective tissue Infections, Respiratory tract Infections, Urogenital infections, Skin and soft tissue Infections. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to Lincomycin or Clindamycin, moniliasis, severe-liver or kidney damage. PRECAUTIONS/WARNINGS: G.I diseases especially colitis, asthma, history of allergies, newborn pregnancy, periodic LFT and blood counts, during prolonged therapy. KEEP ALL MEDICINE OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. INTERACTIONS: Lincomycin has neuromuscular blocking activity in high doses and may enhance the effects of other drugs with this action, with a potential danger of respiratory depression; Lincomycin may antagonize the activity of Para sympathomimetic. ADVERSE EFFECTS: Diarrhoea (discontinue treatment) nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, oesophagitis, antibiotic associated colitis, rashes, pruritus, urticaria and rarely anaphylaxis: Steven - Johnson's syndrome, exfoliate and vesiculobullous dermatitis, jaundice and altered liver function tests and thrombocytopenia, pain, induration and abscess after I.M Injection, thrombophlebitis after Intravenous Injection. DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION: By mouth, adult and children over 14 years, 500 mg 3 - 4 times daily, depending on the severity of the Infection, Capsules not recommended for children below 14 years of age. SYMPTOMS OF OVER DOSAGE AND ANTIDOTE: Symptoms of overdose with lincomycin may include: leucopenia, agranulocytosis, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, erythema, multiforme, exfoliative and vesiculobullous dermatitis, polyarthritis and severe diarrhoea (in 20% or patients). Lincomycin should be withdraw immediately If significant diarrhoea or colitis occurs, Metronidazole or vancomycin may i.e. used to treat antibiotic associated pseudomembranous colitis. STORAGE/HANDLING RECOMMENDATIONS: Store at controlled room temperature (15-30ºC).
