Metoclopramide Injection 10mg/2ml I.M./I.V. COMPOSITION: It is a sterile solution of Metoclopramide Hydrochloride in water for Injection. Each ampoule contains Metoclopramide Hydrochloride 10mg. ACTION: Metoclopramide hydrochloride is a substituted benzamide which stimulates the motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract without effecting gastric acid secretion. Metoclopramide increases gastric peristalsis leading to accelerated gastric emptying. INDICATIONS: Used in the treatment of some forms of nausea and vomiting such as that associated with cancer therapy or that following surgery, it is of little benefit in the prevention or treatment of motion sickness. This agent may be used to facilitate intubation procedures and to stimulate gastric emptying during radiographic examinations. Also used for gastor - oesophageal reflux or gastric stasis. DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION: Given by intramuscular or slow intravenous injection in 10mg, three times daily. ADVERSE EFFECT: This agent may cause extrapyramidal symptoms which usually occur as acute dystonic reaction especially in young patient. The risk may be reduced by keeping the daily dose below 500 μg per kg body - weight. Parkinsonism and/ or tardive dyskinesia have occasionally occurred. AVALABILITY: Ampoule of 2 ml- Box of 100ampoules. STORE: In airtight containers. Protect from light. SHELF LIFE: Three years.
